Abstract
First paragraph: Created and used for 13th century Scottish royal inaugurations at Scone Abbey, in 1296 it was stolen and taken to Westminster Abbey to be used in the Coronations of English, and later British, monarchs. It was returned to Scotland in 1996 by the United Kingdom Government trying to prevent a popular vote for Scottish devolution. Kept securely by Historic Environment Scotland in Edinburgh Castle’s Crown Room along with the Scottish regalia, it returned to London briefly for the 2023 Coronation of King Charles III. In 2024 it moved to an acclaimed permanent home in the new Perth Museum.
