Abstract
1. The responses of the musculature of the oval of saithe to drugs and electrical stimulation have been examined. 2. The circular muscle was cholinergic and the radial muscle was α-adrenergic. 3. Vagal stimulation caused opening of the oval. Stimulation of the splanchnic nerve did not cause closure. 4. The vascular plexus dilates in response to adrenaline and constricts in response to acetylcholine, demonstrating an active role in the control of gas resorption.
