About me

Lorna Gibb joined Stirling in 2022. Prior to that she was the Head of Creative writing at the University of Hertfordshire. After an early academic career as a theoretical phonologist, Lorna worked in IT, first as a programmer then leading projects in speech technology for a variety of city firms. She returned to academia by way of an academic post in Qatar, teaching contracts at the University of Menton and the International University of Monaco and the publication of the first two of her mainstream books, biographies of Lady Hester Stanhope and Dame Rebecca West. She has given a British Academy lecture tour in Serbia and been an invited speaker in Leiden, Poland, Cyprus, Spain and the US. She has spoken at many UK Literary Festivals including Aye Write, Edinburgh International Book Festival, Dartington, Cheltenham and Wilderness. In addition to four non fiction books, she has written a novel and lots of short stories, articles and features for publications including Granta Magazine, Diva, The Telegraph, Red Magazine, La Piccioletta Barca, and academic articles about her research interests.
