Abstract
First paragraph: We were delighted to have the opportunity to develop a special issue focused on cancer – which is a priority for both people affected by the disease (Tuffrey-Wijne et al. 2007) and government health departments alike (Department of Health 2007; Scottish Government 2008). Cancer is a prominent issue as increasing numbers of people with learning disabilities, just as the general population, will be affected by cancer, either through personal experience of a diagnosis or through a family member or friend being diagnosed with the disease.
