Abstract
First paragraph: Psychological aspects of liver disease are diverse and important: this is the subject of an excellent recent review by Collis et al (1992). Two types of mental disorder are particularly linked to liver diseases: alcohol-related disorders, and organic mental impairment (encephalopathy, delirium, dementia), which of course overlap. This chapter intends to provide the hepatologist with a practical review of the assessment of problem drinking and cognitive impairment.
