Abstract
This paper describes a study of the reactions of Dutch automobile drivers to substantial changes in fuel prices that took place in 1986 and 1991, based on monthly panel data. The authors found different estimates for the price elasticities, depending on the data used and the method employed, and they posit that this variation in estimates should be attributed to differences in the perceived nature of the price changes.
