Abstract
This paper describes a distributed run-time approach to detecting feature interactions. The technique monitors feature and resource state transitions in run-time and by comparing these to "state signatures", which represent valid state transitions, it is possible to determine if a feature is operating correctly. It is assumed that incorrect operation is caused by feature interaction. The approach requires no centralised "a priori" knowledge of features nor any knowledge of how the features work, thus preserving service privacy. Encouraging preliminary results have been obtained from testing the approach in a software testbed designed during the project.
