Abstract
Across Europe a rights based agenda has dominated recent efforts to tackle inequality. This approach relies on indentity categories, such as 'older people', and is governed by them. Yet our everyday lives, including experiences of discrimination rarely unfold to neat categories of social difference. This report considers some of the problems associated with certain categories that apply to later life. It supports thinking about how to undertake research into discrimination and ageing and how to involve older people as part of that process.
