Abstract
Productivity is recognized as an important parameter and it is now accepted that the economic health of nations depends upon the productivity of their components. Despite so much discussion about the subject, the level of measurement and analysis is still negligible. Productivity measures could either be based on physical or financial inputs.  It is only “total productivity” that measures the true values of productivity in an industry. Total productivity has been adopted here and its values calculated for the Iranian iron ore mines for the last four years.  The method described here could serve as useful tool in analyzing productivity and suggest remedial actions in situations of low performance.
