Abstract
First paragraph: The 21st Conference of the Parties (CoP-21) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was expected to adopt a new climate agreement, setting the world on a path to address the greatest challenge to ever face humankind. The outlook for the conference was rather gloomy, due to inveterate Party divisions and to sclerotic dynamics in the negotiation process.1 Yet, to the surprise of many, CoP-21 concluded on 12 December 2015, barely a day late, with the adoption of the Paris Agreement, a new climate change treaty
