Abstract
As the debate over devolution and over a referendum(s) on Scottish independence intensifies the Union of 1707 comes into focus as a topic of historiographical debate but also of interest to the teachers and high school students of Scotland. This article explores the latest research, traditional and recent historical assessments and the value of the topic within the new school curriculum. Especially it makes the point that the online resource The Records of the Parliaments of Scotland [RPS] is a valuable tool in the classroom for the student of Scotland's past as it informs the Scotland of the future.
