Abstract
First paragraph: Academic conferences provide researchers with the opportunity to share their findings with other like-minded individuals. Indeed, conference attendance and, in particular, presenting at an international conference are used by some institutions as part of their decision making regarding promotions. Therefore, apart from the publish-or-perish pressure researchers face, they are also conscious of the importance of conference attendance.
