Abstract
This paper outlines the development of the English Premier League association football competition and in doing so analyzes the consequences of collective decisions made by the constituent clubs on matters such as revenue sharing, salary caps and broadcasting rights, as well as the legacy effects of not fully breaking away from an existing organization. It concludes with a consideration of what Asian soccer might learn from the experiences of the English organization.
