Abstract
This paper takes as its starting-point Anna Carabelli’s discussion of Keynes’s concept of tragic happiness. The purpose is to explore the non-dualistic nature of Keynes’s conceptualisations with respect to real subject matter. Beyond the apparent paradox of tragic happiness we explore in turn Keynes’s non-dualistic conceptualisation of ontology and epistemology, scepticism (or uncertainty) relative to certainty, and subjectivity relative to objectivity. The incommensurability both of heterogeneous moral considerations and of heterogeneous reasons underpins Keynes’s theory of uncertainty. Here we pursue the discussion of incommensurability further in terms of different approaches to economics.
