Abstract
- A study of working-class poetry and poetics in Victorian Britain with particular focus on Sottish literature - Recovers the work of over 50 named working-class poets, most of whom have received no critical attention to date - Discusses a large sample of newspaper poetry columns, providing the most detailed study of how the provincial press supported working-class literature - Challenges previous narratives about Scottish Victorian literature and presents evidence of an active, lively, and political culture of local writing in this period
