Abstract
Building on the 1982 article by Allan Macinnes this chapter explores the relationship between Scotland and the Isle of Man during the early modern period, with a particular focus on the reign of James VI, both pre- and post-1603. It locates this within a wider archipelagic context and James' efforts to govern the outlying areas of his realm.
