First paragraph: This section presents an overview of the socioecology of the different non-human apes: bonobos; chimpanzees; eastern and western gorillas; gibbons (including siamangs); and Bornean, Sumatran and Tapanuli orangutans. The information provided in this section is largely drawn from Emery Thompson and Wrangham (2013), Mittermeier, Rylands and Wilson (2013), Reinartz, Ingmanson and Vervaecke (2013), Robbins (2011), Robbins and Robbins (2018), Wich et al. (2009), Williamson and Butynski (2013a, 2013b), and Williamson, Maisels and Groves (2013).
