Abstract
First paragraph: Craddock’s book ‘Living against austerity; A feminist investigation of doing activism and being an activist’ provides an in-depth understanding of the meanings and practices of the local anti-austerity culture in Nottingham. It draws on data collected through Craddock’s participant observation of local anti-austerity events, as well as 30 semi-structured interviews conducted with people who self-identified as being involved in the local anti-austerity activism scene. These data were collected between 2011 and 2013. Her sample included both female and male participants, involved in events, protests and online activism organised by the UK Uncut and People’s assembly. Craddock’s book offers nuanced insights into the gendered and affective dimensions of Nottingham’s local activist culture.
