Abstract
The National Archives of Zimbabwe possesses a collection of film, approximately 320 hours, mainly produced by the Central African Film Unit (CAFU). An international project aims to digitize this patrimony in order to save it from degradation and loss; to open this content to research; and to enrich collective memory – for the Zimbabwean public, as well as for local and international historians. With this article we explain why it is important to safeguard such content and the lessons learnt during the project.
