Abstract
This volume is one of a series of recent publications stemming from the work of the Dr Williams’s Centre for Dissenting Studies (established in 2004) of which the editors are co-directors. As its title and institutional affiliations indicate, it is limited to the dissenting hymn, excluding not only mainstream Anglican hymnology but also the work of John and Charles Wesley and, in practice, most twentieth-century manifestations of its subject. Within the confines of that remit, however, it provides an exemplary treatment of dissenting hymnology as well as displaying an admirable cohesion.
