Abstract
First paragraph: Members of the microbial systematics community who knew Gus Priest personally or by reputation will be saddened to learn that he died of cancer in hospital on 28 February. Gus spent almost all of his home life in East Linton, South-eastern Scotland, but conducted most of his work life at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.
