About me

I joined the University of Stirling in 1989. Prior to that I had studied for an MA at the University of Warwick and for a PhD at the University of Manchester. I was appointed Senior Lecturer in 1996 and Professor of Retail Management in 1999.Since that time I have held a number of positions within the University, including the Director of IRS and Chair of the Retail Division. Research Interests Research Group: Institute for Retail Studies. A significant proportion of my academic career has been involved in the area of external engagement both in the UK and Internationally. This remit has included a broad spectrum of activities including international student recruitment and marketing, management development and study tours, launching undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in overseas markets and helping to establish a national training academy in South Africa. In the last few years I have been involved in developing transnational collaborations and have worked at a national level with Governments, Statutory Bodies and a range of funding providers. I was also responsible for establishing and operating the University's first permanent overseas teaching and research facility in Singapore. Like a number of my colleagues at this esteemed institution, I am Welsh and an avid fan of rugby (no, it was not a red card). Despite continuing protests from every part of my creaking body, I still make a somewhat ludicrous attempt to run with the oval ball and turn out whenever possible for Hillfoots RFC. I am a keen wildlife photographerwww.jurong-photography.com, enjoy hillwalking and am slowly becoming more adept with the fishing fly.
