About me

Zana Gul completed a Ph.D. in international politics at the University of Sheffield and he is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Dr Gul taught at the University of Sheffield and Edge Hill University, the UK. Zana completed a teaching qualification and postgraduate degree (MEd in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education at the University of Sheffield). Publications include a book "The making of foreign policy in Iraq: Political factions and ruling elites" London: I.B. Tauris (an imprint of Bloomsbury) (2021), book chapters and peer-reviewed articles with academic journals such as an article published in 2020 with Studies in Conflict and Terrorism (Routledge: Taylor and Francis), an article published in 2021 with Small Wars and Insurgencies (Routledge: Taylor and Francis) and an article in 2022 with Asian Affairs (Routledge: Taylor and Francis).

Dr Zana Gul has published dozens of articles and reports on the politics, IR, development and security of the Middle East with research institutes, think tanks and newspapers such as CTC Sentinel, Open Democracy, E-International Relations, National Security Innovations, the Jamestown Foundation and The National. Dr Gul presented papers at conferences organised by the Political Studies Association, the American Political Science Association, the British Society for Middle Eastern Studies and the British International Studies Association.

Dr Gul's recent projects include contributing to the events and publishing a report on a project titled "Charting a New Path: The Kurdistan Region of Iraq and UK Relations", which was led by Audere International and Cambridge Middle East and North Africa Forum (based at the University of Cambridge). Dr Gul received the Insight Award grant (Co-I) from the Scottish Council on Global Affairs on the project "The next 100 years of peace in the Greater Middle East: Beyond the 1923 peace settlement and the reconfiguration of the East-West relations".
