I am a Lecturer of Nursing at The University of Stirling. I qualified as a registered Adult Nurse from The University of Stirling. Post qualifying, I worked in the Acute Admission Unit before I moved to work in the field of Smoking Cessation, Tobacco Prevention and Protection in 2005. During this time, I have worked in both the hospital and the community supporting patients to stop smoking. In the last six years of my time working for the NHS, my focus was on partnership working, community development and capacity building using asset-based approaches to deliver tobacco prevention and protection. Working in collaboration with key partners in the public, private and third sector, has provided vital experience when aiming to lessen health inequalities through locality working. I have over 12 years’ experience promoting health and wellbeing in areas of deprivation and working with hard-to-reach client groups. I then returned to academia and completed my MSc in Public Health and Health Promotion. Prior to joining The University of Stirling, I was invited to attend the British Thoracic Society Winter conference (2019) to deliver a poster presentation of an abstract entitled ‘Investigating changes in parents’ perceptions and attitudes of smoking in the home after a second-hand smoke educational intervention in nurseries.’ I have completed my Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education and am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. My research interests include: Tobacco, Health Inequalities and Public Health.
