President of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), Andrea Spyropoulos, visited the University of Stirling to give a talk titled Values in Nursing: Myth or Reality? on 28 March.
The talk, held in the Logie Lecture Theatre, is the first of the Stirling Health Lecture series in 2012.
The RCN President praised the “amazing” Stirling campus and facilities. She added: “Stirling is a fabulous environment to work and study in. I was really impressed with the student nurses who stayed behind to discuss nursing issues and how they can engage in shaping future health care. It fills my heart with joy to find such commitment amongst our youngest members of the profession.
“The most important thing for me is that I am a nurse first and foremost. Healthcare professionals must always questions the decisions they make and think about how it will affect the patient.
“Our core business is health and recognition, reward and respect as values for nurses are key.”
Professor William Lauder, Head of the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health said: “We pride ourselves as being at the forefront of the delivery of healthcare and we provide solutions to the challenges faced by the nursing profession.
“It was a great pleasure to have the President of the RCN visit the campus and deliver this informative talk. She has spent the last 30 years in a wide range of nursing roles so we were privileged to be able to benefit from her expertise and knowledge during the visit.”
