Having always adored its campus, studying at the University of Stirling was Ida’s long-time dream. She said: “I always said that if I ever got an offer to study at Stirling, I’d 100% choose to study there and thankfully I got one!”
She added: “Throughout my studies, I’ve been supported a lot by everyone at the University. From the incredible team at the Faculty of Health Sciences to the Student’s Union via being President of the Paramedic Society. I’ve had incredible opportunities to develop as an individual.
“Also, the lecturing team at Stirling have hugely diverse backgrounds and experiences. Their expertise has helped with the learning that comes with each module I’ve studied. They tie in their knowledge and experience so effortlessly and the theory is presented through different types of media which caters to different learning styles.”
Ida’s favourite part of the course was the variety of placement areas, which covered NHS Fife, Tayside and Forth Valley. Ida said: “I really enjoyed my placements which were across both rural and urban areas of central Scotland and I feel really prepared for my new job as I have had such varied experiences; from responding to patients on boats to attending those in hairdressers in town centres.”
Having finished her final practice placement, Ida is on her way to becoming a Newly Qualified Paramedic for the Scottish Ambulance Service. She added: “Having studied at Stirling University, I have developed my interpersonal and clinical skills to levels I didn’t know they could be developed to! These skills will be invaluable to me in my career as a paramedic.”
The one piece of advice for anyone thinking of studying BSc Paramedic Science at Stirling, Ida says: “Do it! I’ve loved my time studying at the University of Stirling and it’s super bittersweet to be graduating from such an amazing and supportive university.“
