MSc Investment Analysis

China

I come from Dalian in China. I graduated with a BA in Investment Management from Dongbei University of Finance and Economics in 1999 and decided to further my studies in the UK.

I started my overseas studies initially in Glasgow, spending one year improving my English at Clydebank College. During this period I applied to study at the University of Stirling because I fell in love with Stirling when I first saw it. My dream soon came true and in September 2000 I became a student on the MSc Investment Analysis course at the University.

During my studies in the Accounting and Finance Division the professors and lecturers provided me with the latest knowledge and skills in the field of finance and investment, which laid a solid foundation for my future career. With their great help, I obtained an MSc in Investment Analysis with Distinction in 2001.

When I completed my postgraduate studies, Professor Robin Limmack asked me whether I would like to work for a joint BA programme the Department had just established in Beijing. I accepted the offer, after careful consideration, and in October 2001 I went back to Beijing to work as a lecturer and joint programme manager at Beijing-USA College of English. During the four years that I worked for the College, I taught some key courses, e.g. Accounting and Business Statistics, on the BA in Finance and Investment programme. I was also in contact with the staff at the University of Stirling, e.g. Dr Kevin Campbell, from time to time to make sure the joint programme ran smoothly. My performance in teaching was regarded as outstanding and I was very pleased to be awarded ‘Beijing Municipal Excellent Teacher for Year 2004’ by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Education.

Graduation did not mean the end of my studies. In my spare time, I passed all the three levels of the CFA exams, from 2002 to 2004. Since I had accumulated relevant teaching experience over three years, I became a CFA charter holder in 2004. In 2005 I was employed as a senior lecturer at the DMC CFA Training Centre, which is sponsored by Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Currently, I am teaching nearly half of the CFA training courses in DMC’s Beijing Branch. Additionally, I have got to know a lot of people from the financial industry as a result of my teaching activities in Beijing.

Studying at the University of Stirling is an unforgettable memory in my life. I benefited from it in many respects. If I had another opportunity to choose a UK university at which to study, the University of Stirling would be my first choice.
