Ross's Story

What first attracted you to choose the University of Stirling to study your course?

Initially, I was attracted to the area because of the beautiful scenery, both the town and the University. I stayed because I enjoyed the course.

What are the benefits you found as a result of studying at Stirling?

The benefits of studying at Stirling are that it is very central, making traveling around to different areas in Scotland very easy. It also has a small town feel with the amenities of a city which makes my lifestyle here enjoyable.

What specific feature(s) did you like most about the course?

I enjoy my placements. Nursing has a great opportunity to get “on the job” experience whilst having the support and time off site within the University to reflect on my experiences.

What advice would you give to prospective students considering coming to Stirling?

If you are interested in nursing Stirling is a great place. Forth Valley Health Board staff are approachable and supportive. All of my placement mentors have been interested and keen to be involved in my progress. On the other side of my studies within the University, my personal tutor is supportive and approachable which has enhanced my university experience.

What impact do you think your studies will have on your future career?

The theory aspect of the job enhances your training greatly. At the University we regularly receive lectures from experts in various fields gaining knowledge that wouldn’t be possible in a practice-only work environment.
