The beautiful campus and the on campus accommodation attracted me to the University of Stirling. Coming from a small town this was important for me moving to a new place. I was also attracted to the dual honours course options, as I didn’t see any other universities offering it in this way. The University of Stirling is ranked highly for Accounting so I expected a high standard of teaching, and that is what I got.
I found the lecturers most helpful. Even though the teaching styles differ, every lecturer wants to see their students succeed and there's ample opportunity to get further help beyond the tutorials and lectures, if needed. The majority of lecturers also have real-world experience which they bring to each of their lectures, making them more interesting by being able to show real-world application and not just in a textbook.
Most of the coursework looks at real companies and situations which I found beneficial, as you can see the theory that you are being taught in the lectures used in professional applications, which can make learning more refreshing.
There are many places designated for student study from the computer labs to the modern study zone, but by far the biggest benefit of studying at the University is the library with its wide range of resources available for all degree disciplines and enthusiastic staff who are always on hand to help out.
With many different extracurricular clubs/societies to join it really makes the University feel like one big family, which can make the transition to university life easier for students, especially as for most this will be the first time that they are moving away from home.
