Laura Harkins

Having previously studied at other institutions, I was drawn to the amazing campus at the University of Stirling and the excellent research and teaching standards. I wanted to have access to teachers and not be lost in a sea of faces in the middle of a city, whilst still being able to socialise with people from all different backgrounds and cultures.

During my studies I have not only learned the necessary skills for my chosen career and gained employment in my field, but in doing so I have made friends with people from all over the world. I have built a strong working relationship with my school department and I have been given the role of School Officer, which not only allows me to become involved in the planning and operations of my degree course, but which enhances my employability for the future.

The specific features about the course I enjoyed most were the more creative and practical assessments that we had throughout our degree. Namely projects where we had to create a working industry template for accounts using excel, and give financial evaluations and analyses of listed companies.

I would advise prospective students to take their time in deciding and to carefully consider which environment would suit them best for learning and for socialising. I have found that having a clear plan of what I wanted to achieve from my degree and knowing where I would like to study has helped me to succeed throughout my time at Stirling.

I that think the university experience at Stirling is different from that of other institutions. The community feel of the campus and the accessibility to teaching staff have given me the best possible environment in which to learn and the confidence to develop my skills both in business and as an individual.

I could not be happier with my choice of university. I think that Stirling strives to achieve the best results for their staff and students and I have felt more involved here than I would have thought likely. I enjoy my studies and love being on campus in the unique surroundings. It is a great place to study.
