Kyle Boyek chose Stirling for its world-class swimming programme.
He said: “I have been a competitive swimmer since I was eight, competing at national level my whole career. At 21, I left the sport and began a professional career in recruitment but at returned three years later. After a year of strong performances, I decided to move to a top performance programme, visiting several before deciding that Stirling was the best fit. Studying here was a secondary priority but, after researching the Creative Writing course, I decided to enrol.”
Kyle is passionate about writing and was keen to develop his writing skills and his understanding of the industry. He added: “The spine of the course was the workshops, where students submitted work to be critiqued by the other students. This meant I was always preparing work for a submission and always reading other people's work, which helped hone my own writing skills in an organic way.
“We also explored the technical aspects of writing and the logistical side of the industry, such as working with literary agents. This is what I love about the course - the core component is always writing itself, but it gives students a holistic and realistic understanding of pursuing a career in it.”
