BSc (Hons) Education (Secondary) and Environmental Geography
England, United Kingdom
I completed a concurrent degree in Environmental Geography and Professional Secondary Education at the University of Stirling. I have enjoyed every minute of this and can look back on an abundance of joyful experiences.
Studying at Stirling enabled me to gain a Geography degree while building up teaching experience and developing my knowledge of education. As well as being qualified to teach Geography and Modern Studies, I have been able to progress in my professional career faster than any other university could allow me to do.
From expertly crafted modules to university lecturers ready to go beyond the call to support learners, I have always felt valued, supported and included within the learning context at Stirling.
Furthermore, networking with past and present students has enabled bilateral learning to occur, where knowledge, experiences and effective pedagogies have been shared across year groups.
The University of Stirling has a campus that lends itself to outdoor learning and I have benefited from opportunities to develop pedagogical skills through field trips and excursions. A recent trip to the Isle of Millport developed my understanding of outdoor learning and the benefits it offers for learning and forging relationships with young people. These are skills that I believe to be integral to effective geography teaching.
I have benefited significantly from my time at the University of Stirling, and I commend the course. If you have a passion to teach and develop your subject knowledge simultaneously this could be the course for you!
