Sheree's Story

Sheree Gregg has held a lifelong passion for nursing and caring, and follows in her mother’s footsteps by becoming a University of Stirling graduate and beginning a career as a nurse.

Sheree’s journey has not be an easy one and earlier this year she was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). The Inverness local has not let the terminal illness stop her from achieving her ambition of graduating and beginning work as a nurse.

The MND diagnosis came just two weeks before Sheree’s final exams and a 14-week placement but the 29-year-old overcame the shock and the challenges in her way to graduate with distinction.

She said: “When I was younger I graduated with a degree in music but went on to work in the care sector and decided that was the career for me because I wanted to help others. The experiences I have had, I believe, enable me to be empathetic and understanding of the patient’s situation.

“My time at Stirling has been fantastic – I gained many great friends and enjoyed many experiences as we learned together and from each other too. I particularly enjoyed the anatomy and physiology classes and my lecturer made the classes very interesting and engaging.

“The team at the University were incredibly supportive following my diagnosis which was instrumental in helping me finish my studies and graduate with distinction. I’m extremely proud to have achieved my goal of working in nursing and although I don’t know for how long I can continue to do so, I am taking one day at a time.

“I would describe my time at Stirling as intriguing, exciting and testing.”
