Fergus's Story
As a passionate sportsman who enjoys pushing himself to the limit, Fergus Roberts was keen to study at a university that provided him with the opportunity to continue his triathlon training.
“The University of Stirling is renowned for its sporting excellence and provides a great training base for triathlon, with some of the most beautiful scenery and challenging terrain, which has improved my performance,” he said.
“I chose Geography because I have always enjoyed learning about how the world works and am passionate about sustainable living. I believe that everyone can make a difference by doing small things in our everyday lives to reduce the negative impact that humans have on the planet.”
Fergus, from North Yorkshire, spent five years at Stirling and, during that time, enjoyed representing the University in triathlon around the world.
“The facilities at the University are great and have given me the best opportunities,” he continued. “With the help of the University and the Winning Students scholarship, I have been very lucky to compete and train all over the world.
“The highlights include competing in a World Cup in Capetown and being selected as a reserve for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games this year.”
Fergus has placed in the top 10 at British Universities and Colleges Sport competitions in each year of his studies, and has competed for the athletics and cycling clubs too.
“I have enjoyed every minute of representing the University of Stirling and I am very proud to wear the green colours,” he added.
Describing his time at Stirling as “fast, fun and challenging”, Fergus is now fully focused on becoming a professional triathlete.
