Q&A

What first attracted you to choose the University of Stirling to study your course?

The course – I work for my local ADP and saw an advert for the course on Twitter. The course structure allows me to study flexibly and from my rural hometown, I hadn’t seen anything like this anywhere else.

What are the benefits you found as a result of studying at Stirling?

I have learned so much! I already had background knowledge of alcohol and drugs both from lived experience and working in the field but studying this course has introduced me to various different perspectives and the evidence behind them.

What specific feature(s) did you like most about the course?

The course content has been so interesting. I have particularly enjoyed learning more about the historical context of substance use and international responses to it. Drug policy is more complex than it initially seems, it has been interesting to gain a comprehensive understanding of how different responses to substance use work and what evidence they are based on.

What advice would you give to prospective students considering coming to Stirling?

I would advise anyone considering doing a course at Stirling to go for it! The support from the tutors and other staff has been outstanding and I have always been able to work flexibly alongside my full time job. Materials are available in good time and there is ample opportunity to speak to tutors ahead of assignment deadlines.

Are you currently employed? If so, please tell us what impact do you think your studies will have on your future career?

I am employed and I am confident that this course will enhance my professional practice and career opportunities. I have already used knowledge from the course to inform decision making within my department.
