Anita's Story
Masters student Anita George excelled to such a degree while studying at Stirling that she scooped a top industry award and full-time job thanks to quality of her work during a placement.
Anita scooped the top accolade at the Data Scientist 2.0: Talent Driven Innovation conference in recognition of the work she undertook while on placement with NHS National Services Scotland – and now works full-time for the organisation.
What makes Anita’s success more impressive is that she had no previous data analysis experience before undertaking her Masters at Stirling, after securing a scholarship from Data Lab. The Stirling local, originally from India, previously worked as an architect before taking a career break.
She said: 'It has been a whirlwind year since starting my studies at the Stirling Management School.'
'The course was challenging, and a big career change from architecture. I enjoyed the course, and I got to meet many professionals and students around Scotland who were passionate about Data Science through the University’s partnership with the Data Lab. My work placement with the NHS was extremely valuable, as it led to an offer of a full-time job.'
'The employability and personal development workshops held as part of my course were instrumental in helping me build the transferable skills required to go into the workplace as a data analyst.'
'The wide range of different cultures and nationalities on my course and across the campus also played a part in my own personal development and ability to work in a team.'
