Andrew Mill
MSc Advancing Practice
United Kingdom
Having completed a Diploma in Paramedic Practice, Andrew was working as a paramedic in the Scottish Ambulance Service before applying to study at the University of Stirling.
Talking about his course, Andrew said: “I began the MSc Advanced Practice not quite knowing what to expect, but knowing I had a hunger to continue learning more within my role as a Paramedic.
“I really enjoyed the classroom teaching during the first year. The quality of the teaching was second to none with the lecturers bringing in hospital consultants or Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) to teach each topic related to the course.
“My favourite thing about my time at Stirling Uni has been the excellent staff, and the incredible support offered by all of them. I never felt alone when I had an issue or worry, the staff were always on hand to offer support and guidance and to signpost me to other methods of support such as from library services. This has made obtaining my Masters degree less of an overwhelming experience, and more of a thoroughly enjoyable one.”
The advice that Andrew would give to any prospective students is “Do it. You won’t regret it and you won’t get a better experience elsewhere. The quality of the teaching is high, and the support is very good.”
Upon graduation, Andrew was awarded the University of Stirling Research Based Learning Prize for the Best Health Science Research Project, and he’s currently working as a qualified Advanced Paramedic.
“I started this role as a trainee while studying, so completing my studies has already had a positive impact on my career, long before graduating. Now that I have my Masters degree, it allows me to use it for future roles if I wish.”
