ACTION
Active Community Through Interactive Operations and Networking (ACTION) for Older Adults
Our ACTION project aims to support healthy ageing in older adults while also promoting intergenerational connections and shared experiences between older adults and sport students.
The project team delivers a hybrid programme that integrates physical, technological, and social activities in a safe and welcoming environment at the University of Stirling.
The hybrid programme consists of:
- Physical Activities: Tailored for older adults, these activities draw inspiration from the Young at Heart programme previously run by the Sports Development Service (SDS) before the pandemic. They are designed to promote physical well-being and are accessible to individuals with varying fitness levels.
- Social Activities: Focused on fostering social connections, our programme includes a range of group activities that encourage fun, collaboration, cultural experiences, and intergenerational interaction.
- Technology Activities: Recognising the importance of digital literacy for older adults, we teach older adults how to use social media and AI-based software (LLM tools) for everyday tasks. Additionally, we integrate technology into our physical and social activities to enhance accessibility and engagement.

Events
The ACTION project team regularly host events at the University sports centre, making use of studio and sports hall space. Events in Autumn 2024 attracted over 30 participants, all enjoying a wide range of physical, social and technological activities.
