Deadline

Deadline for the current round of applications has passed. We're waiting on funding confirmation for the next round.

This scholarship is funded by an alumni gift from the Gordon family, to support the development of social innovation research capacity at the University of Stirling. This will pay for a PhD studentship to undertake doctoral study at Stirling Management School for three years, covering PhD studentship and all fees. Exceptional international candidates will be considered.

This PhD project (under the supervision of Prof Michael Roy and Dr Krista Bondy) will extend our knowledge on the role of power in shaping social innovation (viz Avelino, 2021). This interdisciplinary project will focus on how different structures and hierarchies of power (e.g. Pfeffer, 1992; Young, 2011; Fraser, 2008) lead to differences in how ideas are created and spread throughout society. It will bring together recent insights from the power literature such as challenging narrow views of what we mean by power (e.g. Haugaard, 2010), to better articulate and understand the nuanced and complex ways in which power operates in practice (e.g. Willmott, 2013), with a range of other literatures that contribute to our understanding of how ideas spread, such as norms (e.g. de Groot, Bondy & Schuitema, 2021) and sustainability (e.g. Meqdadi, Johnsen, & Johnsen, 2017).

More details about the studentship can be found on FindaPhD.com.
