This scholarship is funded by an alumni gift from the Gordon family, to support the development of social innovation research capacity at the University of Stirling. This will pay for one PhD studentship to undertake doctoral study at Stirling Management School for three years, covering PhD studentship and all fees. Exceptional international candidates will be considered.
In this PhD project we wish to substantively extend theory and empirical knowledge concerning the concept of social innovation ecosystems (viz Pel et al, 2020). Under the supervision of Prof Michael Roy and Dr Michaela Hruskova, the student will draw upon existing scholarship from (for example) entrepreneurial ecosystems (Wurth et al, 2022; Hruskova, 2024), social enterprise ecosystems (de Bruin et al, 2023; Roy & Hazenberg, 2019), and emerging literature on public service ecosystems (Osborne et al, 2022).

Eligibility and availability
Eligible for PhD study (usually having master's degree or equivalent with a sizeable social science component).
International fees may be covered for exceptional candidates.
Study commences in Autumn 2024.
Student will be expected to attend on-campus meetings and commit to being on campus for a significant amount of the week.

Applicants will need to have interpersonal skills to develop positive working relationships with supervisors and stakeholders. It is essential to have effective verbal and written communication skills. Applicants should demonstrate that they can work to deadlines, prepare, and deliver presentations and write high quality research papers.
Applicants should submit via email a curriculum vitae (no more than 2 pages), a research proposal of around 4-5 pages outlining how they propose to tackle the chosen topic of the two, a brief letter outlining their motivation and qualification for the studentship, transcripts of undergraduate and master’s qualifications, and two academic references, to Professor Michael Roy (email: michael.roy1@stir.ac.uk) by no later than 5pm on 28th June 2024.
