Film and Media students from the University of Stirling are winners for the third year in a row at the Royal Television Society (RTS) Scotland Student Television Awards.
After dominating the Best Long Form Documentary category – in which Stirling received all three nominations – students won for the film Sub Zero Salvation.
The winning film was made for the Documentary Production dissertation module, by students Ethan Dear, Alex Lichtenauer, Antoaneta Ninovska, Meena Annamalai and Ronja Putensen.
Sub Zero Salvation tells the story of the power of the Polar Bear Club in Glasgow and how cold water immersion can turn people’s lives around.
Antoaneta also won the RTS Award for Best Sound for the work on Sub Zero Salvation, the third year in a row that a Stirling student has picked up a Craft Award. The awards ceremony was held last night in Glasgow.

The film’s director Ethan Dear said: “The team and myself are beyond delighted to receive this award. Making this film meant a great deal to us and our now close friends at the Polar Bear Club. All of us poured passion into every facet of it, and I think it shows. We received invaluable guidance from our mentors at the University of Stirling. Their support certainly gave me the skills and confidence to direct this project. This film was the first for all of us, and I don’t think we could ask for a better reward.”

Professor Dario Sinforiani, Head of Production Teaching in the University of Stirling’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities, said: “We are immensely proud of our students' achievement and their excellent work, and the fact that the University of Stirling continues to shine in the RTS Scotland Student Awards.”
The University of Stirling won three awards at last year’s event and four in 2023. Stirling is current holder of the UK Best Student Documentary title.
The film now goes on to the RTS Scotland Programme Awards and the UK RTS Student Television Awards. Both ceremonies are held in June.
