University of Stirling encourages ‘homes for life’ as it hosts Scottish Housing Day 2024.
The University of Stirling is highlighting the need for ‘homes for life’ as it hosts this year’s Scottish Housing Day 2024 event.
The one-day free event, organised by the Scottish Housing Day partners, will take place at the University of Stirling’s Dementia Services Development Centre on Scottish Housing Day on Wednesday, 18 September.
The Minister for Housing Paul McLennan MSP will attend the event, which will be chaired by housing expert and University of Stirling Professor Vikki McCall.
Professor of Social Policy
As our population’s needs change, it is highly important that our homes and neighbourhoods are designed to not only accommodate older people, but to integrate inclusive designs in our communities that support everyone.
Professor McCall said: “Housing and healthy ageing are two important areas of research for us at the University of Stirling, and we are delighted to not only be hosting the Scottish Housing Day event, but to enable discussion on how Scotland prepares for housing needs for every stage of people’s lives. As our population’s needs change, it is highly important that our homes and neighbourhoods are designed to not only accommodate older people, but to integrate inclusive designs in our communities that support everyone.”
The University of Stirling is a UK leader in housing studies, offering a range of courses on the subject.
The Scottish Housing Day partners, which include the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) Scotland, Housing Options Scotland and Scotland’s Housing Network, will launch a special report on homes for life at the event.
Ashley Campbell, policy and practice manager of the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) Scotland and chair of the Scottish Housing Day working group, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with the University of Stirling, and others, to hold a special event to celebrate this year’s Scottish Housing Day.
“We want to encourage people to think about housing for people in later life as we facilitate a nationwide discussion on housing needs and how we can plan for the future – as individuals, communities, housing organisations and policy makers.”
