Hundreds of students receive degree certificates at graduation ceremony

The next generation of historians, journalists, and politicians received their award certificates at a graduation ceremony held at the University of Stirling today.
Around 300 students from 30 nations were presented with their awards by The Rt Hon. Lord McConnell of Glenscorrodale, Chancellor of the University.
Today’s ceremony, which celebrated graduates from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, was the first of five taking place across the week.
More than 2,000 graduates will be celebrated today, tomorrow and Thursday, alongside four honorary graduates who will be made Doctors of the University in recognition of their outstanding contributions to society.
Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden will be recognised for her exceptional services to dementia care.
Former CEO of Mars, Grant Reid, a graduate of the University, will be celebrated for his contribution to business, while Khadija Coll MBE, who has worked with refugees and asylum seekers in Scotland and Africa, will be recognised for her charity work.
And Robert Kilgour, founder of two successful care home providers, will be celebrated for his entrepreneurism and philanthropy.
Professor Sir Gerry McCormac, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Stirling, said: “We are delighted to be awarding these honorary doctorates to such a diverse and well deserving group, who each in their own way have had an influence on our society. They truly are inspirational in their fields, and role models for our graduating students.”
