University of Stirling golf scholar, Lorna McClymont, ended her student golf season in style this past week after finishing top of the R&A Student Tour Series Order of Merit.

Having previously won three R&A Student Tour Series events in Ireland, Portugal and Spain, the Stirling golfer topped the qualifying stage heading into the Series Final at St Andrews.

Despite narrowly missing out on a fourth event title, finishing two shots behind St Andrews’ Lucy Jamieson, the 21 year-old topped the season-long Order of Merit table with a mammoth 540 points, 210 points clear of fellow Stirling teammate Nicola Slater.

The Sports Studies student was full of gratitude for the work of The R&A after the conclusion of this year’s tour: “We are incredibly lucky to be able to play in these tournaments. The R&A has done an amazing job, and I can’t thank the organisers enough. They’ve given us great courses to play on, and this experience is going to stand me in good stead for the rest of the year.”

The result earns Lorna a place on the 2022 Arnold Palmer Cup team for the second time – an event where the top eight university players from the USA, UK, Ireland and Europe battle it out at some of the world’s best golf courses.

Speaking of her selection for the team, she said: “To play in the Arnold Palmer Cup again is going to be amazing. Knowing I deserve my place and I belong there, means a lot to me.”

McClymont now prepares for summer, when the 2022 Arnold Palmer Cup takes place on 1-3 July at Golf Club de Genève in Switzerland.
