University of Stirling triathlete, Sophia Green, is set to take on the world’s best later this month after qualifying for the ITU Junior World Triathlon Grand Final in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Green travelled with her Stirling teammates to the Junior Super Series in Wales last week knowing first or second in the Junior category would be enough to secure her place at the ITU’s premiere event. As well as dominating the Junior field with a superb gold medal-winning performance, the Sport Studies student also finished second in the senior event, narrowly losing out to the experienced Welsh athlete, Bronwen Owen.

And in her final event before Lausanne, Green secured silver at the ETU Triathlon Junior European Cup in Riga, Latvia, this past weekend, meaning she heads to Switzerland confident of mixing it with the very best.

Commenting on her qualification, she said: “Qualifying for my first World Junior Championships is a really good feeling. It's like all the hard work over the winter has paid off and I think as the season has gone on it's just got better and better so it's nice to see.

“This past weekend I was racing in Riga, which was pretty successful, and I think racing there has just set me up really well for the Worlds, getting another consistent result in, and I think I'm in a good place.”

Green is part of the University of Stirling’s high-performance triathlon programme.
