A student nurse from the Highlands and Islands has earned a top honour.
Michelle Davidson (25), from Teandalloch, by Beauly in Inverness-shire, has been awarded the R G Bomont Award for Excellence in Clinical Practice by the University of Stirling.
She will receive her award at a ceremony at the University’s Western Isles Campus in Stornoway – where she studied for her nursing degree. The event will take place on 8 November just a week after her graduation.
Earlier this year Michelle – a former pupil of Dingwall Academy – was a finalist in the Student Nursing Times Awards 2013.
She said she was delighted at her latest success. “I have had three fantastic years as a student nurse with exceptional support and training from all the staff at the Western Isles Campus,” she said. “I have been very lucky to have had such a variety of clinical placements supported by outstanding mentors. I hope to continue to do the best that I can for the patients and families that I have the opportunity to care for in my future nursing career.”
University Teaching Fellow Michael MacPhee, Michelle’s Personal Tutor, said she was a very worthy recipient of the award.
He said: “This award is recognition of excellence in student performance, specifically in clinical practice. It is to Michelle’s credit that she not only demonstrated a high level of commitment and achievement in academic work, but also exhibited an exceptional standard of clinical practice and delivery of patient care. I know that Michelle will make a difference in her nursing career.”
Dr Robert Bomont, a previous University Secretary, was an influential part of positioning the University to take on the subject area of Nursing and Midwifery in 1996.
This link was further strengthened when the University elected to name the Nursing and Midwifery Building on the Stirling Campus, the R G Bomont Building.
The continued association of Dr Bomont with the School, and his generosity, resulted in the creation of an annual award.
