Talented photographers have scooped great prizes in the University of Stirling’s annual photography competition.
The contest – only in its second year – was open to existing students and alumni, as well as students from Forth Valley College.

The big winner was Stirling student Coraline. Her picture of a demonstration in Santiago in Chile won her a work experience slot at The Guardian in London and £1000 towards travel costs from banking giant Santander.
Professor Douglas Brodie, the head of the University’s School of Arts and Humanities, said: “This year’s competition saw an increased number of entries and some excellent submissions from students and alumni. I’d like to thank everyone who entered – and to congratulate the overall winners.”
Category winners and runners-up have now gone on show in the Macrobert arts complex on campus. The exhibition will run until mid-November.
The winners, runners-up and their prizes are as follows:
- PHOTOJOURNALISM – Winner: Coraline, Picture Title: Fighting for free education, Santiago, Chile (wins one week’s work experience at The Guardian, London, and £1000 travel grant donated by Santander). Runner-Up: Amanda Maria Dominguez Bermudez, Picture Title: Walk (wins University of Stirling goodie bag)
- STUDENT LIFE ABROAD - Winner: Charles Sawyer, Picture Title: Fire Forged (wins £150 Barrhead Travel vouchers). Runner-Up: Coraline, Picture Title: Discovering the heart of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, La Paz (wins £50 cash, donated by Projects on Track)
- ALUMNI - Winner: Andrew Jenkin, Picture Title: Bwanji (wins a small print by respected printmaker Willie Rodger, donated but the University Art Collection. The framing for the print has been donated by Roslyn Cottage Framing, Bridge of Allan). Runner-Up: Ang Swee Leng Lawrence, Picture Title: Rail Laundry (wins University of Stirling goodie bag).
- TRANSITIONS - Winner: Gregor Hogg, Picture Title: From Land to Sea (wins £150 cash donated by The Birds & Bees Restaurant). Runner-Up: David Skillman, Picture Title: Willow Tree Seeding (wins £50 voucher, John Smiths)
- STUDENT LIFE - Winner: Sabine Kurz, Picture Title: Wallace Monument from Dumyat (wins £150 high street vouchers donated by Sodexo). Runner-Up: Gregor Hogg, Picture Title: Student Pioneers (wins meal deal voucher for two at Nandos).
