THE Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs, Fiona Hyslop MSP, has helped launch a conference at the University of Stirling.
“The Landscapes of Conflict” event opened today (Friday) and continues tomorrow (Saturday 8 June). It is being held in our Pathfoot Building, on our main Stirling Campus.
The free event - open to the public – looks at how landscapes influence both civil and military conflicts, today and in the past. Everything from Bannockburn to the modern-day conflicts over wind farms will be discussed.
Dr Catherine Mills, who helped to organise the event - said: “The event is open to everyone – from the general public to post-graduate students and senior academics. We hope local people will drop in for some or all of the sessions. The full programme is now online at www.stir.ac.uk/landscapes . There’s no need to pre-book, just come to our Pathfoot building on the day.”
To tie in with the conference, a new exhibition called “Blueprints” has been launched at the University, featuring the work of Orkney-based artist Alistair Peebles.
