Over 1400 students will graduate from the University of Stirling on 27 and 28 June, in four ceremonies which will take place in the University’s National Tennis Centre on the Stirling campus.
The University Chancellor, BBC’s Today presenter Dr James Naughtie, will preside over the graduation ceremonies, capping every one of the students as they receive their degree certificate.
The Chancellor will also confer honorary degrees on four distinguished individuals in recognition of their outstanding achievements.

Wednesday 27 June at 10am: School of Applied Social Science, School of Education, School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health
Honorary Graduate: Baroness Greengross. Baroness Sally Greengross will receive the award of Doctor of the University in recognition of her campaigning work in the field of ageing and dementia.
Sally Greengross is an international figure in the field of ageing and dementia and is currently Chief Executive of the International Longevity Centre UK and Commissioner on the Equality and Human Rights Commission. In 2000, she was appointed a crossbench member of the House of Lords where she chairs four All-Party Parliamentary Groups.
Wednesday 27 June at 2.30pm: School of Arts and Humanities
Honorary Graduate: Lord Davidson. Lord Davidson of Glen Clova will receive the award of Doctor of the University in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Scots Law and Public Affairs. He is one of Stirling’s most distinguished graduates and public servants, having graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Lord Davidson is a leading Scots lawyer of his generation and has served in both the Scottish and UK Governments as Solicitor General for Scotland and Advocate General for Scotland respectively. In 2006, he was elevated to the House of Lords as a life peer with the title Baron Davidson of Glen Clova.
Thursday 28 June at 10am: School of Natural Sciences, School of Sport
Honorary Graduate: Graeme Simmers. Graeme Simmers will be awarded the Honorary Degree of Doctor of the University in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the University as a lay member of the University Court.
A Chartered Accountant and former Chairman of the Scottish Highland Hotels Group, Graeme Simmers has excelled in areas as diverse as Chairman of the Scottish Sports Council, Non-Executive Director of Forth Valley Health Board and Captain of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews. Following his distinguished career, he was appointed a member of University Conference in 1998 and then University Court, where he served until July 2010.
Thursday 28 June at 2.30pm; Stirling Management School
Honorary Graduate: Professor Christine Hallett. Professor Christine Hallett will receive the award of Doctor of the University in recognition of her leadership and outstanding contribution to the development and re-shaping of the University of Stirling.
An international expert in the field of social policy, Professor Hallett’s insights and analysis of our social welfare systems remain highly influential. Her work on child welfare and protection is regarded as ground-breaking, laying the foundations for today’s good practice in child protection.
The University of Stirling thrived under Professor Hallett’s leadership, expanding student numbers and raising its profile and standing on the world stage. She led the successful campaign for the refurbishment of the University library and, in her final year as Principal, the University of Stirling achieved the accolade Sunday Times Scottish University of the Year.
