Sashiko Stitching Workshop
Join the University of Stirling Art Collection and experienced teacher and textile enthusiast Sue Crawley (@SunshineDesignsDollar) for a relaxed evening session of slow stitching, inspired by the Japanese technique of Sashiko.
Beginners are welcome and all materials will be provided, alongside some tea and coffee. This event is open to the public, students and staff.
Sashiko is a traditional type of Japanese embroidery or stitching. The word Sashiko means “little stabs” in Japanese. This form of stitching is used for both decorative and functional reinforcement of cloth and clothing. It consists of rows of running stitches that build up repeated patterns. This is a simple form of stitching, and the results are very satisfying. This workshop could be done by experienced stitchers and beginners alike. Everything required will be provided.
